Recently I have been doing a lot of thinking about my life and I’ve come to the conclusion that I have not been as good of a friend as I could have. I don’t talk to the people I know nearly enough. I’ve gone months without speaking to my best friends; hell, I’ve even gone months without speaking to my brothers, who I consider my greatest friends, my comrades in arms. This is something I need to remedy, and it will be remedied.
I’ve also let some people that were my friends slip away, just not talking to them. I’ve also pushed some people away who, retrospectively, I shouldn’t have. There’s also some fascinating people I’ve met over the years that I’ve simply lost contact with.
I’ve decided that I’m going to remedy this situation as well. Starting today, I’m going to try and establish contact with one person each day who I think I deserves to be gotten in touch with again. It could be a Facebook message, an e-mail, a phone call, whatever. Some people are good friends who I’ve lost touch with. Some of them are people I’ve met who I find fascinating in their own way. Some simply make me laugh (in a good way). Whatever the reason, everyone who I’m going to try and make contact with has made some kind of positive contribution to my life, whether inspirational or just someone fun to talk with.
Now I don’t expect everyone to reply. It’s inevitable that some people you meet slip away into their own meaningful lives, never to be heard from again. Nor do I expect to become best friends with everyone I get in touch with again, though that would be nice. But I am looking forward to seeing how everyone is doing, what’s unfolding in their lives. I’m really excited about this little, ongoing project.
There’s no special order I’m picking people to get back in touch with again, so if you happen to be one of those people and you’re reading this and you don’t hear from me for a good long while, don’t get upset. I know I won’t be able to get in contact with someone each day. There’s no ranking either on who gets contacted first, second, etc. It’s all on a whim who I decide to contact each day, really.
So I start today, as soon as this post is finished. Happy 4th of July everyone!
