Things

Long time, no write.  Thought I’d check in with random thoughts.  Don’t worry, I’ve got ideas for a couple humor pieces, which hopefully will be published here very soon.

A very frustrating, shitty, terrible past couple days for brother Ricky.  Yesterday, his laptop was stolen from his hotel room, I assume by one of the cleaning staff.  Today, he dealt with cancelled flights, lost luggage, an exorbitantly priced rental car, torrential downpour, and an out-of-power cell phone.  Currently, he is still on his way home.

I worked at the liquor store in Hampton Saturday afternoon, the one near the DMV.  You know, the grimy one.  At around 3, a drunk guy comes in with an empty deuce-deuce of Kirin lager.  For you non-Virginians, only liquor is sold in Virginia’s ABC stores, and beer is available at any grocery or convenience store.  He comes up to my register, slams the bottle on the counter (which thankfully didn’t shatter), and mumbles/slurs, “where do I get this?”  He slams the bottle on the counter again and repeats himself.  I said to him, “we don’t sell beer here, but you can go to any grocery store and find it, now get the fuck out of here.”  And then he left.  Didn’t get mad that I was rude to him.  Just left.

Baseball.  The Orioles may have a decent year this season.  The bats will come around, especially considering Ramon Hernandez nor Jay Payton have played yet this season.  Solid and deep, if unspectacular, lineup.  Daniel Cabrera is actually throwing the ball over the plate and not walking every other batter.  He’ll end up being considered the ‘ace’ over Bedard by the end of the year.  Loewen looked decent when I saw him on TV, and the bullpen is a helluva lot better than last year.  Still no playoffs, but let’s say 86-76.

With that said, I really really really want to go to a baseball game.  I’ve got the itch.  (Not the kind of itch that ballplayers get out in the field, I’m speaking metaphorically).  If there’s anyone trying to go to a Tides game, let me know.  I also have an urge to ride roller coasters, so Busch Gardens is cool too.

Kapsch came back to visit for a while, meaning a jam session was on with him, Steve, David, and myself.  Good stuff.  It’s too bad we couldn’t find an open mic night to play.

This week:  TV on the Radio on Tuesday, Flaming Lips on Thursday.  I’ll let you know how they were.  Stay classy.
